The Ridge in Detail
An exercise in seeing in color
For years I photographed in black and white, a dedication to visualizing subjects in shades of gray followed by countless hours devoted to working alone in the darkroom to make that vision appear. Those darkroom hours were a time consuming commitment that competed with family and career, with photography on the losing end.
With the arrival of the digital photography revolution, allowing for instant gratification; no longer the need to develop and print to see the image. Just peer at your phone or the back of your camera and there it is - magic! But, is there still a need to visualize? Still a need to process the image, now on a computer instead of in a darkroom? Finally, should it be printed rather than just exist on your phone, your hard drive, or in the cloud? Although digital cameras and cell phones have made taking photos ubiquitous, although in reality these create an abundance of digital files, but not necessarily interesting photographs.
So, here is a collection of images from around the neighborhood of Pleasant Ridge; visualized, photographed, and processed.
